We have been staying at the Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick for many years and after a recent refurbishment the hotel has been upgraded to a 4* and the restaurant has been awarded a rosette for its fantastic food. We enjoy scenic drives through the Lake District. We visit Bowness where we board a cruise along Lake Windermere before taking a journey along the Lakeside to Haverthwaite Steam Railway and visit the Lakeland Motor Museum. We board the Mountain Goat Mini Buses for a High Adventure Tour, take an Ullswater Steamer Cruise, visit Dalemain House & Gardens, and enjoy market day at leisure in Keswick. Day 1
Departing the local area we make our way north with a lunch stop on route. We arrive at The Skiddaw Hotel in the centre of Keswick by late afternoon with time to settle in before dinner.
|Day 2
This morning we drive through the centre of the Lake District National Park, passing Grasmere and Thirlmere arriving in Bowness-on-Windermere for some free time for morning coffee. We board a cruise boat, and take a one-way cruise on Windermere to Lakeside where we board the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway. On our return we enjoy a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum.
|Day 3
This morning we make our way to Pooley Bridge where we board one of the heritage Ullswater Steamers. We then continue to Dalemain where we have time to explore the house, gardens and medieval tea room.
|Day 4
Today we join the "Mountain Goat" minibuses to take us on the minor roads we cannot traverse by coach. This tour focuses around the Western Lake District and is certainly an adventure! Over the Wrynose and Hardknott passes, the steepest in England we drive past the extraordinary remains of Hardknott Roman Fort 1000ft up on the fells. We stop for lunch in Eskdale before driving onward to 'Britain's Favourite View,' Wastwater; England's deepest and most dramatic lake.
|Day 5
Enjoy the day in Keswick on market day, spend the day as you please you could enjoy a Derwent water cruise, visit the pencil museum, take a local bus tour, relax at the hotel, or explore the towns many shop's and pubs.
|Day 6
After breakfast we commence our journey home with suitable stops on route, arriving back late afternoon.
