ITINERARY

Monday 24 October

Departing the local area we make our way to Eastbourne with a lunch break on route. We arrive at the Langham Hotel in Eastbourne mid-afternoon with plenty of time to settle in and maybe take a stroll along the promenade before dinner. This hotel is situated on the sea front to the east of the band stand.

|

Tuesday 25 October

Today we visit Bateman's (NT) family home of Rudyard Kipling. Surrounded by the wooded landscape of the Sussex Weald, this 17th-century house, with its mullioned windows and oak beams, provided a much needed sanctuary to this world-famous writer and inspired his work. The rooms, described by him as 'untouched and unfaked', remain much as he left them, with oriental rugs and artefacts reflecting his strong association with the East.

|

Wednesday 26 October

Today is a day at leisure. Relax at the hotel or explore Eastbourne.

|

Thursday 27 October

Today we drive up over the famous cliffs which form "Beachy Head" and continue along the coast road to Brighton with time to explore the Regency town at leisure, famous for the Brighton Pavilion and the labyrinth of antiques shops in "The Lanes". On our return we enjoy a gentle ride back across the South Downs.

|

Friday 28 October

This morning we visit the nearby Herstmonceux Castle and enjoy 300 acres of carefully managed woodland and themed floral gardens. We return to Eastbourne for an afternoon at leisure.

|

Saturday 29 October

This morning we enjoy a visit to Sheffield Park & Gardens (NT). Originating in the 18th century and developed by each subsequent owner, this garden of colour, perfume and sound excites your senses as you enjoy winding paths, majestic trees, ponds and dappled glades. Falls, cascades and bridges are integral to the garden design. We return home mid-afternoon.
