DETAILED OVERVIEW
ITINERARY
Day 1
Departing the local area, we make our way north with a stop on route, arriving at our hotel, the 4* Cedar Court, Bradford with time to settle in before dinner.
|Day 2
After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Temple Newsam, one of the great houses of England, bursting with treasures and tales. After being seized by Henry VIII and granted to his niece, the house became the birthplace to the notorious Lord Darnley, Husband of Mary Queen of Scots. Today Temple Newsam contains a rich tapestry of period interiors from the 1600s onwards, showing how different generations lived. On our return to the hotel, we visit Leeds a renowned retail destination, where big brands meet Victorian arcades.
|Day 3
This morning, we begin with a drive to the pleasant North Yorkshire market town of Settle. We enjoy a ride on the Settle and Carlisle Railway - considered to be one of England's most scenic rail journeys. We join the diesel train for the journey, passing through spectacular scenery, crossing the famous Ribblehead Viaduct and stopping at Dent, the highest mainline station in England. We rejoin the coach for the short journey into Hawes, main town of Wensleydale, we continue along the dale, past Aysgarth, to join the Wensleydale Railway.
|Day 4
This morning, we visit Skipton - 'Gateway to the Dales'. The main street houses the well-known market, and Skipton Castle stands proudly at the top of the street. Take a stroll around the town and explore some of the interesting little alleyways and shops. From Skipton we journey to Haworth, home of the famous Bronte sisters and their notorious brother. We end the day with a steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley Railway, following the locations used in the film 'The Railway Children'.
|Day 5
After breakfast we make our way south to Holmfirth, famous for being the filming location of Last of the Summer Wine. We continue our way home and with a stop on route return home mid afternoon.
