Day 1
Departing the local area, we make our way north to Newark for lunch at leisure. We arrive at the 4* Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa with time to settle in before dinner.
|Day 2
We start our day with a steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley Railway, following the locations used in the film 'The Railway Children'. Enjoy a return journey from Keighley to Oxenhope and back. On our return to the hotel we visit Temple Newsam, one of the great houses of England, bursting with treasures and tales. After being seized by Henry VIII and granted to his niece, the house became birthplace to the notorious Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots. Today Temple Newsam contains a rich tapestry of period interiors from the 1600s onwards, showing how different generations lived.
|Day 3
This morning, we board the Embsay and Bolton Steam Railway, sit back and relax into the Victorian and Edwardian carriages as we steam through the Yorkshire countryside. We continue onto the historic market town of Skipton; we include a cruise along the Leeds to Liverpool Canal before free time to explore the town.
|Day 4
After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to York, where ancient walls surround contemporary independent shops and vibrant eateries. We include a scenic river cruise where you will spot many famous city landmarks, including the breath-taking gothic beauty of York Minster and Clifford's Tower. Enjoy time at leisure this afternoon to explore this historic city.
|Day 5
We depart the hotel and make our way south to Brodsworth Hall & Gardens (EH), built to the highest standards of luxury in the 1860s, it was home to the same family for over 120 years. After the death of the last owner in 1988, the interiors were conserved as they were found, making this an English country house frozen in time. Wander the award-winning gardens, restored to their original splendour, including the rose garden, fern dell, summerhouse, and garden privy. We return home late afternoon.
