This 5 day holiday is centred around the spectacular Settle to Carlisle Railway, enjoy the 72 mile train journey of unspoilt scenery. We spend the first two nights at the 3* Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley and the second two nights at the 3* Gretna Hall Hotel. Drive through scenic west Yorkshire, including Happy Valley's Hebden Bridge and the Bronte sister's Haworth, and steam along the Railway Children's Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Journey along the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, visit Drumlanrig Castle, visit Gretna Green Blacksmith Shop, and Hutton-in-the-Forest.

ITINERARY

Day 1

Departing the local area, we make our way north with a stop on route, arriving at our hotel, the 3* Craiglands Hotel, with time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

Today we embark on scenic drive taking in the wonders of West Yorkshire's most famous villages. Our first stop is the pretty Hebden Bridge in Upper Caulder Valley, a filming location for the popular Happy Valley TV series. We make our way on to Haworth, home to the famous Bronte sisters, and an undisputed literary mecca. We end the day with a steam train ride along the delightful Worth Valley Railway, following the locations used in the film 'The Railway Children'.

Day 3

We travel to Settle to board the morning departure on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway line. Travel through 72 miles of unspoilt countryside enjoying breath-taking scenery. This journey is arguably the most scenic of any English railway as you pass through 14 tunnels and over 20 viaducts including the Ribblehead Viaduct with 24 arches standing 104 feet above the moor. At Carlisle we re-join the coach for our onward journey to our hotel in Gretna.

Day 4

After a leisurely breakfast we visit Drumlanrig Castle, a fine example of late 17th century Renaissance architecture, constructed from distinctive pink sandstone. Enjoy a guided tour of the castle before exploring the stunning gardens. On our return to the hotel, we have time to visit Gretna Green's Famous Black Smith Shop.

Day 5

After breakfast we depart the hotel, and with stops on route arrive home late afternoon.
