ITINERARY

Day 1

The adventure begins as we depart the local area and head to the heart of the Welsh Marches. After a lunch stop on route, we arrive at our home for the next four nights the magnificent Feathers Hotel, one of the most celebrated and instantly recognisable buildings in England. With its stunning Grade I listed Tudor façade of ornate black and white timber-framing, this Ludlow landmark is as beautiful inside as it is out. Time to settle in, explore the hotel and prepare for a wonderful few days in one of England's most historic corners.

|

Day 2

This morning we head north to Shrewsbury, widely regarded as the finest Tudor town in England and birthplace of the great naturalist Charles Darwin. A glorious maze of narrow alleyways and timber-framed black and white buildings awaits; all cradled within a sweeping bend of the River Severn. Explore the magnificent castle, discover the ancient abbey, and lose yourself in streets that have barely changed in centuries. We make our way to the riverside for a delightful cruise on the River Severn, before enjoying free time to soak up the atmosphere at your own pace.

|

Day 3

Today is yours to discover the delights of Ludlow, and what a day to do it! This glorious medieval town, dominated by its imposing Norman Castle at the top of the market square, is a treasure trove of historic buildings, independent shops, renowned restaurants and welcoming pubs. Best of all, today is market day, so the town will be buzzing with life, colour and the very best of local produce. Simply step outside the hotel door and begin exploring.

|

Day 4

All aboard for one of the great railway journeys of the Midlands! We begin with free time to explore the fascinating hilltop town of Bridgnorth: a town of two halves, with a dramatic High Town perched on sandstone cliffs above the Low Town below. Then we step back in time as we board the glorious Severn Valley Railway for a vintage-hauled journey through some of the most beautiful countryside in Shropshire and Worcestershire. As the steam engine hugs the banks of the River Severn, sit back, relax and let the stunning scenery roll by, before arriving at the charming riverside town of Bewdley, with its elegant Georgian architecture and pretty riverside gardens.

|

Day 5

After a leisurely final breakfast at the magnificent Feathers, we bid a fond farewell to Ludlow and the beautiful Welsh Marches, and begin our journey home with a lunch stop on route, arriving back late afternoon.
