Peacefully set beside York Racecourse and overlooking the beautiful Knavesmire Strays, just 1.5 miles from the heart of the city, this elegant hotel offers spacious contemporary rooms, many with lovely garden views, along with a superb range of facilities including an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, sauna and steam room. Time to settle in and enjoy dinner before the adventures that await.

Day 2

Prepare for a day you will never forget. We make our way to the magnificent York Station, where liveried stewards welcome you aboard the exquisite Saphos Train - a breathtaking collection of beautifully restored 1920s carriages adorned with intricate marquetry and plush upholstery, transporting you back to the true golden age of travel. A chilled glass of Buck's Fizz sets the tone for the impeccable white glove service that follows, as you settle in for a sumptuous full English or fish breakfast accompanied by freshly baked pastries and granola.

As the train winds its way through the historic towns and rolling hills of Yorkshire and into the dramatic landscapes of Derbyshire, the scenery shifts from gentle dales and charming villages to sweeping limestone valleys that have inspired artists and writers for centuries. On arrival at Chesterfield station, board the coach and explore the irresistible charm of Bakewell, famous for its pretty streets, independent shops and, of course, its legendary pudding. Followed by a guided coach tour before rejoining the train for the journey back.

As the sun begins to set over Derbyshire's captivating countryside, a champagne reception and selection of expertly crafted canapés await, followed by a magnificent five-course seasonal dinner showcasing the very best of British cuisine. A Great British cheese board with biscuits and chutneys, accompanied by the sommelier's choice of wine, and rounded off with tea, coffee and homemade petits fours. A fitting and utterly unforgettable finale to an exceptional day.

Day 3

Today York is yours to explore at your leisure. After a relaxed breakfast, the coach transfers you into the heart of this extraordinary city, where Viking streets hide beneath Roman foundations, medieval walls embrace world-class museums, and history seems to spill out of every corner. Visit the awe-inspiring York Minster, delve into the Viking world at the JORVIK Viking Centre, or spend a fascinating morning at the National Railway Museum - a fitting nod to yesterday's adventures. The York Castle Museum, the York Dungeon and a leisurely stroll along the iconic cobbled lanes of the Shambles are among the many other temptations, while a gentle cruise along the River Ouse offers a beautiful perspective of this remarkable city. We return to our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 4

We bid a fond farewell to York and head south for a final and truly spectacular treat, a visit to the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse. Boasting the longest country house façade in England, this extraordinary stately home was built for the 1st Marquess of Rockingham in the mid-18th century and has lived a remarkable life - from its wartime requisition by Military Intelligence to its reinvention as a college campus, and now its exciting ongoing restoration by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust. Familiar to millions as a filming location for Darkest Hour, Downton Abbey, Victoria and Gentleman Jack, a guided tour of this iconic building is an absolute privilege. We depart for home mid-afternoon, arriving back late afternoon with wonderful memories of a truly first-class short break.
